The Tools of God and the Velnias Earlier, the velnias used the best tools. When people didn’t know anything
about scythes and other utensils, he had at least one. Once, during the
hay harvest, the velnias was cutting hay with a scythe, while God, because
He didn’t have a scythe, was cutting hay with a chisel. Having seen that
He will get nowhere with a chisel, God set a sweet sleep on the velnias,
took his scythe, cut all his hay, then put the scythe back where it belonged.
When the velnias woke up, he saw that God had cut all of His hay, while
he himself had only just begun. Then the velnias began to urge God to trade
His chisel for the scythe. God gave him the chisel and took the scythe
for Himself. When they both began to cut, things went easily for God.
That’s how God often fools the velnias. There’s even a saying to remind
us of the velnias’ stupidity: As foolish as the velnias.
